No matter how secure your home may seem, mice and other rodents are small and resourceful. If you end up with unwelcome guests in your home, consider these five common entry points.

Mice get inside your home

1. Windows and doors. Mice and other rodents will often get inside the same way you do. Mice can squeeze into very small spaces, including cracks or gaps around windows and doors. Keep doors and windows shut securely. Also, add door flaps or extra insulation to correct gaps.

2. Walls. Mice can also get inside through the walls, exploiting small cracks in the exterior. Look for cracks in the foundation of your home. If some are present, fill them promptly in order to avoid any possible infestations.

3. Floors. If mice can live in the walls, they can live between the floorboards as well. These small rodents can exploit any small gap, wriggling in and taking claim of your home. As with the walls, check for any cracks and then address the issue.

4. Pipes and vents. Pipes and vents connect a home with outside systems such as water, heat and more. This gives mice a great avenue to get inside. Vents and pipes should never be covered but securing them with mesh can sometimes keep mice out.

5. Ceilings. Mice and other rodents climb well, making it easy for them to get in through the roof. From there, they travel through the walls to find a way to the rest of the home. Always look at the roof for any openings in order to do the necessary repair work.

If you see any signs of a possible rodent infestation, be sure to contact a professional exterminator in Central Illinois immediately.
